DEADLINE.COM – EXCLUSIVE: Ansel Elgort is set to star in Jonathan, a fast mobilizing independent film. It will be directed by Bill Oliver (Guilt), who wrote the script with Peter Nickowitz. Neal Dodson and Randy Manis are producing. Elgort, who broke through in The Fault In Our Stars and next stars in Billionaire Boys Club and Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver, will play both male lead roles here. The films tells the story of Jonathan, a successful architect who lives a normal life dictated by a strict routine. Jonathan’s twin brother John, on the other hand, sleeps all day and spends the night secretly socializing. Jonathan and John share the same body and while Jonathan is perfectly accepting of their isolation as laid out by their no-girlfriend policy, John is starting to fall in love with Elena. When Jonathan discovers his brother’s secret, he forces John to end things and then he starts a new relationship Elena out of curiosity and jealousy. John ultimately catches wind of the affair which puts his relationship with his twin at serious risk. The film begins shooting next month in New York. Elgort, who has also been circling Dungeons & Dragons at Warner Bros, is repped by Brookside Artist Management, CAA and attorney Kevin Yorn.

VARIETY – Lionsgate is planning to wrap up the “Divergent Series” with a television movie and a spinoff series, Variety has learned.

Negotiations are in the early stages, but instead of having “The Divergent Series: Ascendant” open in theaters next year, the studio wants to wrap up the film series on the small screen, according to an individual with knowledge of the situation. That would then segue into a standalone television series set in the same post-apocalyptic world.

The first two “Divergent” films were box office hits, but the most recent chapter, “Allegiant,” stumbled when it hit theaters last spring. The fourth and final film, “Ascendant,” was originally scheduled to debut in June 2017, when it would have squared off against “World War Z 2” and a reboot of “The Mummy.” The studio initially planned to start shooting this summer in Atlanta, before “Allegiant’s” box office performance caused them to rethink that strategy.

Lionsgate’s television group will handle production. The idea is to finalize the storylines involving the current cast and to introduce a new cast, who would then continue the series on either a traditional or streaming network.

The “Divergent” films focused on a futuristic society where people are broken up into social and personality-related factions. Veronica Roth authored the best-selling series that inspired the movies.

It’s not clear if stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Ansel Elgort, and others will return for the “Ascendant” television movie. Lee Toland Krieger (“Age of Adaline”) had been tapped to direct the film.

No deals appear to have been made, and sources say that the the studio has yet to pitch the project to networks.

DEADLINE – EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros’ fantasy film Dungeons And Dragons, the movie based on the role-playing game that began in 1974 and has built a multi-generational cult following worldwide, is moving forward with word coming that YA favorite Ansel Elgort is in early negotiations to star in the project — a primo role for any actor.

Dungeons And Dragons, to be directed by Rob Letterman, has been a top priority film for Warner Bros. which is looking for new franchises to invigorate the studio. The property was, at one point, the center of litigation as who had the rights. That was resolved last August.

David Leslie Johnson (The Conjuring 2) scripted the fantasy story for the studio. Hasbro’s Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis, Sweetpea Entertainment’s Courtney Solomon and Allan Zeman, and Roy Lee are producing.

Dungeons And Dragons is a fantasy adventure centering on a warrior and his band of mystical creatures as they embark on a dangerous journey to find a mythical treasure. It’s known that Vin Diesel has also expressed interest in being part of the film as he has been a fan of and played the game for more than 20 years. What role, if any, he may take is yet to be determined, but with as big of a social media presence that he has, it seems a no-brainer.

Elgort catapulted onto the big screen with the reboot of Carrie and then Divergent before hitting gold with The Fault In Our Stars. He has since been tapped for the entire Divergent series as well as such films as Baby Driver and Billionaire Boys Club.

Elgort is repped by CAA and Brookside Artist Management.
